r

Don't be ridiculous, there's no evidence for that  >:(

I see the evidence for it as a mental concept, and I accept it as a single consonant of the English alphabet. But outside our brains it is just a mixture of physical phenomena without meaning..

And BA, JC, Sassy and Hope will tell us that we are all heretics for denying that "r" is a precious gift from God for which we should all be truly thankful.

Like everyting else, r-ism is just all in the mind; I really can't believe that some people still take it seriously in this day and age.

On a lighter note I quite like Cyber's 'talk like a pirate day' idea so whilst in Ladbrokes this afternoon I intend to dazzle the staff with my best Robert Newton (the best LJS ever) impersonation.

All I need now is the parrot and an appropriate hat.

Actually, I was going to ask whether Sriram is suggesting that we all learn 'r' (more widely known as 'R') - the programming language and software environment for statistical computing and graphics.

I'd like to hear what Jonathon Ross would say about the subject of this thread.

Title: Re: r

This could about the finding that the Scottish accent has started losing pronunciation of "r" in certain positions in words, thus losing a characteristic distinguishing it from other English and US usage.

As far as I'm concerned the r-ists should be free to worship as they please, whether r or any other consonant, so long as they don't start telling others that they need to worship the same letters too, or that their letters believe that you shouldn't be able to shop in a Tuesday or whatever.

Presumably Countdown is a polytheistic Songs of Praise for letterists?

I am sorry.

I got the Forbidden 404 message every time I tried to post since yesterday. So..I tried just something today and it got posted...but I couldn't modify or delete it after that. Very funny thing! Those pesky little fairies or elves or something must have been busy here! ;)

Anyway I am glad you people are having some fun over it.  :D

Cheers.

Its not bad as a Zen practice to take something random like 'r' and give it meaning. Hey...you guys are good at it!  :)

Maybe I should have let it be for some more time.

No! Very right handed in fact. Why do you ask?
Title: Re: r
Post by: Leonard James on July 19, 2015, 11:36:22 AM
Because you started this thread to see if you could get back in the forum, and you typed 'r' which is normally done with the left hand by a touch typist. I was just wondering!  :)

I am not much of a typist. I type with two fingers on the right and one on the left. Must have been thinking of 'random' and hit  'r',  I guess.  :)

That ties in with what I was thinking. I would expect you to always use the left finger for q, w and e, but the rest of the letters in the row with the right two fingers. Not always, of course, but most of the time.

That was the point, BA. Nobody thought it was serious so we decided to have a bit of fun. And the discussion between Sriram and Len's been quite interesting.

Matty,
I remember a witch that wrote a post telling us that we should live and let live with regards to people and their faith and beliefs. I knew that witch was fibbing.

I listened to your Dad - he sounds a world more intelligent than his son will ever be.

Oh and which particular post were you referring to - I will live and let live when the Christian Fundamentalists let me do likewise.

Ok...whatever!  Maybe I got different messages at different times and I just put them together.

You always were pedantic... jeremyp!

One man's pedantic is another man's let's get this shit straight and factually accurate, remember.

Well..I tried posting a child  trafficking link again now...and I got  'Forbidden' and the '404' in the same message. (Putting the words 'child' and 'sex' together makes that happen).

So....jeremyp is both factually wrong and pedantic!  Of course, you know what you are.....I am sure.  ::)
