Title: Jonathan Myrick Daniels
Post by: Nearly Sane on August 20, 2015, 01:57:24 PM
50th anniversary of the death of Jonathan Daniels. A sobering story, I was unsure where to post this. I get really fed up about that Weinberg quote which treats all the good actions of religious people as just things that would happen when I read about such events.

The gulf between the US and us has been so huge on the issue of race. Long before this happened we had mixed race marriages in my family and it just wasn't ever an issue.

I really cannot stand the attitude that the religious only do good to curry favour with God. The only reason I've ever come across for Christians doing good - really good, not just attempts at conversion - is love. That others do the same without belief in God is neither here nor there.

The demonisation of religion, and the religious is wholly annoying. Reading Jonathan Daniels story reminded me of this performance of Freedom Come All Ye at the Commonwealth Games. We are pitiful things.
