Title: Who were the Greeks?

A fascinating programme about the Ancient greeks - starting with the Battle of Marathon - on BBC Four earlier this evening.

We often ask have people asking about the history and nature of various modern and near-modern behaviours and attiudes - such as slavery and the worship of the perfect body.  Dr Michael Scott touches on these and others in this first episode.

Haven't seen it, will look for it in iplayer. While I understand that Marathon is a pivotal moment. It seems a bit like starting well into the story. I would presume that they do some reverse context setting for it to explain the set up of the city states at the time and why they ended up in conflict with the Persians. The great flowering of Greek, particularly Athenian, culture that follows does not spring unheralded like Athena from Zeus' head
