Warren Mitchell has died at age 89.
I remember seeing him interviewed about this character, he was handed the costume and it was wonderful to watch Warren transform into Alf as he put it on.
You will be missed, Warren - and you too Alf - you would never have been born now.

I meant to post this earlier.
Although his career was and his memory will be always overshadowed by Alf Garnett, he was a very fine serious actor indeed.

I was surprised Warren Mitchell has only just died, he seemed ancient when he played Alf Garnet all those years ago, but was only 40 when he took up the role.

I remember Warren on "This is Your Life" in which he stated "I've always looked old, even when I was young".
