Bit of a furore in this, shouting, etc:-

I think the article is a bit disingenuous myself but worthy of comment.

I'm getting heartily sick and tired of this trope of the "Islamist-appeasing/supporting Left." Such individuals seem to be of the same order as Nessie, Bigfoot and Scottish healthy eaters - often talked about, never actually proven to exist. I don't have to doubt that many people who regard themselves as left-leaning and socially liberal empathise with ethnic minorities given the racism so many face based on dress or obvious religious affiliation or just the colour of their skin, but that isn't a left-right issue; I'd expect no less of any normally constituted, humane, compassionate individual. That's not to be in support of Islam itself much less Islamism. Where are all these lefties who support Islamism? What are their names?
-
It's also used as a smokescreen by many to hide their support for the Saudi Govt and the lack of commitment to the Kurds getting a state to the extent of ignoring the support of Turkey's attacks on them.

No comments on the actual article?
Maryam Namazie has a right to speak at a University doesn't she?

So the title of the article is nothing to do with it?
It's wrong, just as the stuff about no platforming Germaine Green, is wrong.in my opinion.
I don't see why my comment is not relevant relevant terms of what actually supports Islamist extremism. This is similar to differently stated no platforming that I saw 30 odd years ago.

If you can spare 5 mins have a read

Seems to be one here
A man has been charged with malicious communications following an investigation into Facebook messages sent to an MP, Scotland Yard says.
Craig Wallace, 23, who is also known as Muhammad Mujahid Islam, was arrested at an address in north London.
He remains in custody and will appear at Hendon Magistrates' Court on Monday.
It comes after Labour MPs Simon Danczuk and Neil Coyle reported to police alleged death threats after voting in favour of Syria air strikes.

You can't say he isn't left wing, because he doesn't seem to have harassed any conservatives.
He seems to be a labour supporter that feels strongly about the stance specifically labour MPs have taken.
If he wasn't, you would think he would have aimed his ire at David Cameron, wouldn't you?
Or maybe that's a wrong conclusion but it looks about right to me.

Oops same link as Jackswan posted, apologies.
Anyway, after seeing the way the far left behave following the election of the new labour leader my days of voting for them are definately over. I do believe they would see the end of me and my way of life, culture and heritage if they could. They are agressive to the extreme and proud of it, denying freedom to speak and shouting down anyone who dares to.

This article is not about pro Islamic left, but a bunch of silly assed student union politicos. They are the descendants of those in the seventies who applauded NI Catholics when they planted bombs under cars, but slagged them as "bigots" when they spoke against abortion on demand.
To take such people seriously is good fun, but unimportant in the greater scheme of things.

Any idea on why they facilitated the disruption of the event (amongst other things) and labelled the speaker an islamophobe.

Because they are silly kids who don't have enough real things to worry about. I hope for their sakes they don't try to get involved with real street protests which involve large numbers of demonstrators & police.

Well he did threaten to bomb a tory mp so it is Cameron he is objecting to.
Also he is an islamic convert, not sure what his affiliations were before his convertion but pretty sure about what they are now.

"We did this because our holy texts exhort us to do it."
"No you didn't."
"Wait, what? Yes we did..."
"No, this has nothing to do with religion. You guys are just using religion as a front for social and geopolitical reasons."
"WHAT!? Did you even read our official statement? We give explicit Quranic justification. This is jihad, a holy crusade against pagans, blasphemers, and disbelievers."
"No, this is definitely not a Muslim thing. You guys are not true Muslims, and you defame a great religion by saying so."
"Huh!? Who are you to tell us we're not true Muslims!? Islam is literally at the core of everything we do, and we have implemented the truest most literal and honest interpretation of its founding texts. It is our very reason for being."
"Nope. We created you. We installed a social and economic system that alienates and disenfranchises you, and that's why you did this. We're sorry."
"What? Why are you apologizing? We just slaughtered you mercilessly in the streets. We targeted unwitting civilians - disenfranchisement doesn't even enter into it!"
"Listen, it's our fault. We don't blame you for feeling unwelcome and lashing out."
"Seriously, stop taking credit for this! We worked really hard to pull this off, and we're not going to let you take it away from us."
"No, we nourished your extremism. We accept full blame."
"OMG, how many people do we have to kill around here to finally get our message across?""

I also need to know of a good pub, fish and chip shop, and curry house in Leicester. I might be going there for a couple of days next April.
