For people who are alcohol dependent, yes, which makes sense. Bit surprised at you posting that Shaker.

There is so much crazy health advice, one minute something is good for you, sometimes it is bad!
I like a small glass of malt whisky, or wine, three times a week. I don't think it does me any harm.

If you aren't alcohol dependant then this advice does not apply to you Floo.
I agree there is a lot of seemingly conflicting advice around but this is often based on the headlines which the press pick up on rather than the actual detail of the medical studies.

Well if you are alcohol dependent any amount of alcohol is BAD!

Yes, but the article is about stopping drinking in January which would send someone who is alcohol dependant into cold turkey with potentially serious consequences. You did read that didn't you?

A fortnight ago it wouldn't have.
Now it will ::)

Given another two weeks it might well be considered the panacea of all ills! ;D

Dear Shaker,
The latest craze, drinking wine and running a half marathon, the people who usually hand out water give you wine to sample. :)

Hmm ... not for me. Although I've run to the off-licence a few times in the past.

She looks a little ray of sunshine aching to brighten everybody's day, doesn't she?
No prizes for guessing the book she's holding:
She described herself as "a bulldog running along at the feet of Jesus, barking at what He doesn't like", and claimed a divine ordination to promote temperance by destroying bars*.
One of the usual dismal tribe of joyless wowsers who think they've a God-given right to tell people how to live their lives who have been poking their unwanted noses into other peoples' affairs since the year dot, then.

Yes, she looks quite a dear. As a kid I saw her picture in an encyclopedia and it fascinated me. Another picture that fascinated me was a picture taken in China in the late 19th century. A row of pirates kneeling in the sand waiting their execution. The next picture is the pirates laying in the sand with their heads detached.

That's not remotely disturbing. ???

What a strange comment Rhi. You may not find it disturbing (snork) but I did. That's why those pictures made such an impact on me. Another one on the China tour book had 3 convicted women locked together in a thingy like this pic but made for three.

Yup, fascinated me, drew my attention for sure. Since you are playing smart little games today, I will suggest those pictures wouldn't have grabbed you, another day in the park. Too funny you!

Can we get back on topic please? Thank You. :)

Humphy,
What was that you were writing about not drinking being bad for you?

I remember some years ago reading that two glasses of good red wine every day/evening was beneficial to health, so I tried it (& I don't particularly like the taste). I felt drunk - admittedly I have always had a low tolerance level for alcohol - it gave me a headache so was obviously not good for my health :). However red wine and red grapes do have nutritional value and there is something called Resveratrol which can be bought to supplement diet.
The way I see it, for most people a little moderate drinking does no harm even if it doesn't do any good.
