Yes I did and I actually got reunited with a friend because of it.

Married someone I remet
-
I did, years ago, but that was well before the ascendancy of Facebook which has contributed to its demise.
-
I didn't realise it was still in existence.

Not for long!

Lovely :D
I joined and found it a bit scary! Obviously Facebook has taken over (that scares me too!). Forums are a lot quieter nowadays because of the popularity of F/B, something I don't get because, from what I've seen, no-one seems to have in-depth conversations on there.

A "fried"?

Ah! the penny has dropped :o I to dislike facebook, to crowded, to messy, I await the day it implodes, collapses in on itself.
Dear Mods,
The true enemy has shown its face, Facebook, maybe we should all join Facebook and undermine it from within ( there is no smiley for, rubs hands gleefully like a master criminal )
Gonnagle.

While I am not a fan of FaceBook I think its negative influence on discussion forums is not in the matter of discussion content but in the amount of time it takes to plough through the acres of inconsequential crap searching for the scraps of interest that leaves no time for participation in/on the discussion forums.

I am a fan, I don't use it for discussion, I use it to keep in touch with friends and events. On that level it works.

One of my brothers friends used this site, he found that all sorts of people were contacting him whom he was happy to have forgotten about.
I do have a Facebook account, I posted a photograph I had taken of an egg with two yolks, I thought that it would make a change from photos of people standing around holding glasses.

Yes I do, not that I look at it very often. That is a shame, it was interesting to look at the entry for the school I attended.

If a sizeable number of the people that I went to school with were ever on there it means their apllications for parole wre successful.

I went to school with a murderer but I think he's still inside :o

Couldn't agree more - it has proved wonderful for staying in touch with/seeing what's happening with our family in Australia. Especially as we have now got our beautiful great niece there - incidentally is it an age thing, I seem to have got increasingly soppy over cute pictures of said great niece. ;D :o

I went to school with a poisonous little tattle-tale and right little stirrer named Reg Dwight - he is not inside! Dammit!
-
That's "a little bit funny" Owl!
I can see the point of F/B for keeping in touch with people. I don't particularly want to keep in touch with anyone that I do not already keep in touch with :D. I joined because I wanted to re-acquaint with someone I was very good friends with at one time and found her eldest daughter, which was nice. So I got all the news and gave mine. Then I received umpteen emails saying, "A friend of ..... wants to be friends with you" - every day! It freaked me so I deactivated my F/B account. It had served its purpose. Husband and offspring use it, not that much but they quite like it.
Friends Reunited gave me access to old school friends which was quite interesting, then a chap I had known years before sent me a whole load of inappropriate messages so I stopped using that.

Do you mean Elton John? If so he was in the same year as my husband at his school in Middlesex.

I have always thought of where my husband was born and grew up as in the county of Middlesex.
It would be fascinating if Owlswing was at the same school as my husband in the 60s. :)

Pinner County Grammer School c1959 to c1961

I was never a fan of Russell Grant - don't really like astrologers much (it is hard to accept that one twelfth of the world's population is going to experience exactly the things just becasue they were born under the same sign) - but I was happy to see that he was one of those public figures who tried to fight against the use of the name of the London Borough of Hillingdon.

😒
Will that one do?
Or perhaps 😈👹

I am sort of baffled by peopke's reaction to Facebook. It's only as crowded as I want it to be.
It has people who are my friends in it, and a couple of bands I like so I can find out about gigs. It filed a completely different purpose for me than this place.

I'm not confident enough that I could lock FB down enough on the privacy side to feel comfortable using it.

I've taught a murderer - whilst he was in a Social Services Observation and Assessment Centre. Apparently, he was wandering down the street in Coventry with some friends and came across what he claimed he thought was a game of street football. The football turned out to be a guy's head and body!! I understand that he was jailed, but as he and his group wewren't the first on the scene, I believe that they got off fairly lightly as it is thought that the real causes of death had already occurred.

so he wasn't actually a murderer then?

Pinner County Grammer School c1959 to c1961
My husband was there from 1958-1965

Although I haven't used it for years I did "reunite" with my first girlfriend twice on it and have been with her for the last 13 years :)
Its outdated but I have to thank it for that (i suppose ;))

Middlesex has been "Greater London" for donkey's years but letters addressed to Middlesex are still addressed to Middlesex....if you follow me. Like Kew or Richmond (Greater London) are Surrey according to the post office and Chislehurst is Kent.
I used to think Middlesex was where people who were neither one sex nor the other lived (I'll get me coat).

Not correct. Staines is not Greater London, neither is Ashford.
And my birth certificate reads that I was born in Bromley in the County of Kent, not fucking Greater London.

I feel like that too Rhiannon though I have been told that FB can be quite private. I thought I had made my F/B page private when I received so many emails from unknown people; I daresay some cope with that sort of thing better but it doesn't seem worth the effort for me. I'm happy not staying in touch!

Still a member & met a few ex RAF buddies through it.
I'll try to take a look one last time before it closes
