I always cringe when I hear another celebrity has become an activist. So this goof off films a movie in my territory and then goes back to LA and lies his puffy head off about my area of Alberta.
It was a CHINOOK, Mr. Oscar Winner, A CHINOOK! If you didn't experience a Chinook then we could talk about climate change. Chinooks come several times, every winter. What's amusing is even one of our big shopping malls is called, Chinook Centre. Too funny, how fence post stupid celebrities are.
A beautiful picture of a Chinook arch over my city. The picture is taken at the edge of my hill, I recognize the angle of the view to downtown and the houses.

I had to search out what you meant, a chinook to me was a sort of helicopter ;D

I guess perhaps mr DiCaprio hadn't heard of Chinook winds either.
Perhaps he thought it was odd, nick naming a shopping centre after a helicopter :o
Those of us not in Canada probably don't know very much about Chinook winds, I know I haven't heard of it before.

One of the things we get in the uk is the Severn bore

I keep meaning to go .......

Anyway have been reading up about Chinooks.
They also get them in the French Alps, apparently.

I don't think DiCaprio is a liar, just didn't know, like me.
I wonder if other posters have not come across it before?
Sometimes you really only notice something if you come into contact with it.
An example would be when I was in La Palma and looked at the crescent of the moon.
It never occurred to me that the moon would look any different, (like it was lying on its back) instead of the position we normally see it in the uk.
So in effect you could have some idea of where a photo was taken by how the moon looks.
Seriously, I'd just assumed it always looks like it did in the uk.

I suppose even in books the crescent is normally pictured as we see it. ;D
Not on its back.
I also found it odd the very first time I went abroad to a hot country in the summer, to find it was dark at 7pm.
I know it's common sense probably, but it still felt odd, coming from the uk where it was still light until about ten.

Perhaps Leo knows them by a different name. After all, lots of things have different names in different languages/places.

I don't see how Leonardo di Caprio lied. He maybe got hold of the wrong end of the stick and it appears no-one local put him right - perhaps they didn't know much about it either.
Chinook to me meant a type of helicopter but now I have educated myself, thanks to Google and Wiki, and know it has many meanings, including a type of salmon and a breed of dog!

There no suggestion at all that LDC lied, merely that he was mistaken - Woody is simply stirring for the sake of it.
I knew the chinook was a wind but then I'm a meteorology buff on the side. And a helicopter of course (for ever associated with the Vietnam war) and also a salmon because it's mentioned in Robert Lowell's great poem 'Waking Early Sunday Morning.'
-
Nothing great about waking early on a Sunday morning >:( - which is going off at a tangent of course. ''Paint it Black'' springs to mind.....
Back to Mr di Caprio.

To be fair it's among the things that DiCaprio is accused of in the media. I suspect that's where it comes from.

Chinooks run along the Rocky Mountains, Canadian and American Rockies. That's right, Puffy face was so upset about the warming up that he called it climate change, used it at the Oscars, but didn't mention what was going on to anybody while filming here in Alberta. Give me a break. If you are not schooled and in the middle of winter it goes from -20 to +10 in a few hours, you are going to mention it to the locals working for you. Didn't lie? OK, just to stupid or terrorized to ask. Na, he was fibbing, he actually claims the locals didn't know what was going on. That is too much, everybody that has lived in Alberta for a winter, knows the chinook.

Alright OMW, you may be right, he may have been confused. Not a big deal though surely? He wasn't slandering anyone.
People say peculiar things about S E London all the time and they don't concern the weather :).

Yes and Fox News had their " expert" proclaim Birmingham as a Muslim "no go zone", which it isn't.

That's right, Puffy face was so upset about the warming up that he called it climate change, ...
Oddly enough, OMW, that's the same term that sceintists use. Global Warming was a term coined bythe press 20-odd years ago which gave them a change to dismiss the idea when the climate got colder than warmer.
