Sir Clement Freud accused of abusing two girls
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-36535263
-
And so it goes on. Freud's wife has apologised to his victims, so presumably she believed them, and may have known about his abuse! I see he is also being investigated about the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, as he became friendly with her parents in Portugal just before she went missing!
-
I saw that last night on MSN when I logged out of my email.
Nothing surprises me now. We don't know all the facts yet of course.
His brother, Lucien, was a bit of a dirty old man, I met him when I was a teenager. But Lucien was not Clement.

So I'm told these people are unable to see that there is anything wrong with their behaviour although they do know about the laws covering these offences and I'm also reminded that there is no known cure for these people.
Perhaps a bullet between the eyes?

I would, but I am not allowed a gun!

They know it's wrong ippy, they justify their actions to themselves and often mix with people of like mind who reinforce what they choose to believe. It's not an illness.
I'll have to read a bit more about Mr Freud before I make any more comments about him.
Later: Just read the latest. It certainly does appear that he sexually abused a couple of girls, one of whom was in his care - later on he said he ''loved'' her and that she was a ''sensuous little girl'' :o. His wife doesn't seem to have known anything about it which does not surprise me, it is amazing what can go on in the lives of loved ones that is kept hidden and she wouldn't have even thought of such a thing. People didn't years ago.
The McCann link is tenuous. Little Madeline was only four. He was living in the vicinity and befriended the family after her abduction but I doubt there is any more to it.

I'm assured that although they are fully aware of the law they really don't think they are doing the wrong thing, they think the law has got it wrong, their minds don't work in the same way as most of us, it's something I don't like to either read or hear about because like most I find it so disgusting.
I feel sorry for those involved with the law in various ways that have to deal with these people.

Every avenue has to be explored.

Indeed it does and if there was even the slightest possibility of those poor McCanns having closure, I would welcome it. So would everyone I'm sure.
He sounds quite disgusting.

Programme about this on ITV tonight 2305.

I see the police are not going to charge Cliff Richard. I do hope he is totally innocent of all charges, he seemed like a decent chap when I met him at a private beach party in the 70s.
-
I'm extremely glad about that too, floo and I thought he would be exonerated. He seems above board but of course you never can tell, I'm past being disillusioned :(.
I watched the programme about Clement Freud last night and found it deeply disturbing, almost wished I hadn't watched it afterwards. The womens' stories about him were horrible , some of the things they said were so sad and have stayed with me. However it seems there is no link between him and Madeline McCann; he wasn't in Portugal when she was abducted and it was a couple of months later that he befriended her parents. I did think it was unlikely as Madeline was so very young and there are no accounts of him abducting or murdering children but, as you said, every avenue must be explored. I daresay we'll hear more about his deeds in days to come.

Where Cliff Richard is concerned, it would appear there isn't enough evidence with which to charge him after so many years have passed. The police have put his case on the back burner unless more substantial evidence comes to light.
-
Might have been better in some ways to call the accusers out and make them state publicly what they were complaining about, then refuting it. There will be people who still think Sir Cliff is guilty, there have been rumours about him forever. Personally I believe he is not guilty. The way he has spoken about and handled all this shows integrity, but that's my opinion.

However, according to one news bulletin I heard last night, one of those who accused him is considerng taking out a private prosecution. Like ou, I believe that he is innocent, but is there any way that one can be 100% certain nowadays.

I hope he is innocent, I didn't say I believed him to be.

The actions of the South Yorkshire police were absolutely appalling in this case! They raided his home with full TV coverage without even charging him with any offence. What has happened to the presumption of innocence? Even if they had decided to charge him that would still have been very wrong.
-
Indeed it was appalling, not something he will get over in a hurry.
-
The rumours on the net were circulating about him for a long, long time before he was arrested. Guaranteed anonymity is impossible.

But after the full publicity of the raid on his home with TV coverage, it would probably never be possible for him to get a fair trial.

There are always rumours on the 'net about all sorts of people, started by nasty-minded people. No-one arrests them and takes them to court.
A single man who has never talked about his own sexuality (though when he was young he seemed to like girls as much as most and has had a few girlfriends) is fair game. Shouldn't be but that's how some people think.
