Title: Do you work late at the office or equivalent?
Post by: Hope on June 15, 2016, 05:26:32 PM
A possible answer from the Netherlands:

Would it work in the UK?

Not for me personally as I work from home quite often

I can't be arsed copying and pasting the link (why on earth can't we have hyperlinks?), but I work a late shift, finishing work at 22:00 Mon-Fri.  probably not what you mean, though.

Not really, but I suppose the equivalent for you would be staying until 23:00 or 00:00,  rather than finishing at 22:00.  The link tells how this particular Dutch office is programmed to lift all the worktops - with computers - into ceiling recesses at 5pm: according to the programme this occurred in the space created allows the place to double as a night club/coffee bar later in the evening.

Only just seen this.  Some people like working late and can do more when everyone has gone home.

Steve, I agree about the hyperlink.  Might suggest it in the mod area.

Brownie and SteveH, historically, we deactivated hyperlinks because we were getting huge numbers of bot activity and attempts to hack the site, something that deactivating hyperlinks seemed to control.  Whether the SMF software has been made more robust now, I don't know.

I can't really see the point. I've never had any problem putting in the extra hours when the situation needed it but then, I worked in relatively small companies where everyone understands the importance of getting orders completed on time and keeping customers happy, and there has always been give and take with management such that staff get overtime payments or time off in lieu.

The problems seems to arise in companies where there is a culture of long hours without remuneration - and the solution is simple - don't work for such a company.
