Very sad, she was only 52.  She certainly went through the mill with retinal and bladder cancer, finally with secondaries in the lungs.  Apparently she and her brother were born with eye cancer.  I've never heard of that before.

Poor soul, she was very funny.  Who will forget Mrs Merton.

What set Caroline apart from most in her genre was that she knew when to retire a character, and to move on to a new creation. That is why Sister Mary Immaculate, Mrs Merton, and Denise Royle never became boring, because Caroline did not let them become stale. RIP.

I'll remember her best from the Fast Show. Funny!
