Yeah! Go girls!
They can't make as big a mess as the boys, IMO ;)

One name: Thatcher
At the risk of sounding like a pantomime dame "Oh yes they can"

Leadsom already has by being a leading light in Brexit.

I don't think women are taking over but it is good to see more women being taken seriously in politics. Some are good, some are dreadful - no different to men really. Let us remember the excellent ones! In no particular order: Diane Abbott, the late Jo Cox, Betty Boothroyd, Baroness Warsi, Nicola Sturgeon. Abroad: The late Indira Gandhi, Goldi Meyer, Benazir Bhutto. Still living: Angela Merkel.
Gonners, you may take your ironing board design elsewhere thank you. I spent many years of my life being virtually chained to one, in between cooking, washing, child and teen care, going out to work, being stuck on trains between signals (leaves on the line and all that), etc. Now everything goes to the ironing shop and my lovely ironing board is only for emergencies! Life is too short.
PS: I'll have the laptop, I presume it is detachable. I can sell the ironing board on ebay.

What a polite way of suggesting that Gonners can shove his ironing board design up his arse..........
Now that's the kind of diplomacy we need at the Brexit talks.

I thin it is good that we are increasingly seeing a move toward just as many women as men in top political positions as being completely normal, no longer worthy of remark.
So the notion that come the autumn 3 out of the five major legislative governments in the UK will be lead by women seems to be a subject of merely a matter of no more than cursory interest rather than some kind of major deal.
That's good as far as I can see as it creates a notion of equal normality of there being a male or a female leader.
-
Yup, quite right too.
-
It might be because the men have decided "we're all doomed"with no way out of the mess, and run off to hide in the woods :o

The female politicians all adhere to the philosophy of the Egyptian goddess Taweret with regard to men. It is written she only let her husband out at night.
-
Hardly taking over. Less than a third of MPs are women.
-
And not in Lib Dems, out of MPS, AMs, and MSPs they have 1 woman

Going off the point, what is the hand picking away at in your avatar, Splashcuba? Looks like making a hole in plaster.

I doubt their gender will make any difference.
-
Socially and culturally, no, biologically - maybe.
-
Some women do a good job, others don't, just like the blokes.
-
I am not a member of any political party and I am not in the least bothered about what sex - or gender - is possessed or exhibited by the First Lord of the Treasury ( to use the prime minister's formal title).
What does concern me is that Andrea Leadsom's polical career may parallel that of Jeremy Corbyn. Conservative grassroots may ensure her appointment as prime minister and quite soon after taking office she, as has been the case with Jeremy Corbyn, she loses the confidence of her fellow Conservative MPs. The consequences to the well-being of the United Kingdom may be catastrophic. She may well be capable of becoming an excellent prime minister but I fear it is not a risk worth taking.

That is beyond doubt - MPs overwhelmingly supported May - Leadsom has very limited support within the parliamentary party. And you cannot be an excellent PM without the support of your MPs.

One can only hope that Leadsom's clear lack of judgement in her interview with The Times yesterday will register with those who think she would be a good choice for PM.

Indeed - I'm not sure whether this is simply due to her massive inexperience, or whether it reveals that gender issues and sexism remain prevalent in some people, including amongst women. Do you think that she would have made the same comment if her opponent was a child-less man.

It worries me that the only qualifications which are important for some are having voted Brexit and being optimistic.

And they are probably made up, like most of the rest of her cv ;)

I think it is very unlikely. If her opponent had been gay. she could well have tied herself up in so many knots that only those with the same prejudices would want to vote for her.

It worries me too. It worries me even more to hear people (including old friends)say that they think it would be quite nice to have a brexiteer as PM. Fortunately, they do not have votes!

Two labour women to watch in my opinion.
Chakrabarti and Thornberry.

Good choices.

'Notion of equal normality'. It's interesting to notice that Obama's Presidency has seen no improvement in the conditions of the Black American population. If anything, his role has acted as a way of disguising the problem.
-
That is very true. It's a great pity. Obama seems to have been absorbed into the walls of the White House, no-one thinks of him as a black man any more. Except of course for particularly racist areas where little changes.
Ah well.

LOL, not quite. It's someone placing their hand on a small hold on a rock face. It's a climbing thing.

Reminds me of that age old philosophical question: If a man was in a forest talking out loud and there were no women to hear him, would he still be wrong? ;)
