Title: A day that will live in infamy...
Post by: jeremyp on August 01, 2016, 08:47:19 PM
... if you are Australian.

August 6th is the anniversary of the worst day in history for Australian sport. Let us mark the occasion with deep respect (or sniggering if you are not Australian).

Dear Fellow Brits,

I don't understand the game, I don't want to understand the game ( is it just a game ) but I do feel a warm glow inside to know that I am in some way connected to the weird and wonderful world of cricket ( I am British, my only connection ).

I understand football, I can just about get my head around rugby, hell! I can even follow a game of tennis ( what's love got to do, got to do with it ??? ) but cricket :o :o

Quote
Dibbly-dobbly bowlers - Bowlers who are of medium pace, and are effective in the one-day scenario in choking the runs. New Zealand had a famous quartet - Rod Latham, Gavin Larsen, Chris Harris and Nathan Astle - during the 1992 World Cup

No!! I am not making it up ::)

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/story/239756.html

Here's another :P

Quote
Bunsen A term used by commentators to describe a pitch heavily favouring slow bowlers. From Cockney rhyming slang (Bunsen Burner = turner).

Cockney rhyming in cricket :o

But Geoffrey Boycott sums it all up, who is Geoffrey Boycott? well he is a famous English cricketer don'tcherknow 8) ( cricketer, is that a word ::) )

Quote
Former England batsman Geoffrey Boycott: "Australia are just poor at batting when the ball moves.

The Aussies can't hit the ball when it moves, England are cheating! they are making the ball move :o :o

Another world! what kind of mind, devised, invented, plays, enjoys that pastime we call cricket ( probably in trouble for calling it a pastime ).

Gonnagle.

Bah cricket!

I thought that it was going to be about something really significant ...

... like Julius Caesar's last words,

... like Julius Caesar's last words,

You mean Kenneth Williams interpretation of Caesar's last words.

Anyway, this is cricket, so let's not get too far off the beaten track.

And by "beaten" I mean heavily beaten.

I understand football, ...
Have you informed the various UK football authorities about this, Gonners?  After all, few if any of them do - let alone the majority of the British people.

Without looking at any links, was it the day when the Aussies decided to light a barby on the pitch?
