Saddened to see that Judge Goddard - the 3rd person to be appointed to lead this inquiry - has resigned with immediate effect. The fact that she is from New Zealand and presumably still has family there may be a major reason.

The "press" have been complaining that she takes too many holidays. Is it possible that she is fed up with media intrusion into her private life?
This has the possibility of being an own goal from the press. The press want to see this enquiry achieve results but cannot resist having pokes at authority figures.
Later addition:

Hopefully they will find someone up to the task of taking on this very serious inquiry who will be able to stay the course.

I suspect that the calibre of person that they would need 'wouldn't be short of a couple of bob' - so salary would probably not be the main factor.
