The title is, "Tspiras hopes 'Club Med' to soften EU austerity." It's a short article.
"After Britain's departure, the 'Club Med' will have a blocking minority that can prevent all kinds of laws in Brussels that it does not like," Ferber said.

Britain voted Brexit and wants Mrs May to get on and invoke article 50............before it wears off.

Apparently, before Brexit, all the Northern states were able to vote for austerity to the detriment of poor little Greece. Afterwards, they'll be able to stick two fingers up to the Northerners and go on a spending spree.
The real problem though is that Greece's monetary policy is determined by Germany by virtue of the Eurozone, something that the UK was never part of. He's kidding himself because he is desperate.

Except that they have a card they can play that can beat/thrash the Germans with. Not directly on the issue of their finances but round about through other means. All in all people are beginning to lose faith in this EU God.

What card is that then?

I don't think the eu is widely worshipped among remainers. It's just that Brexit has been badly conceived and timed and unplanned and supported by people who I would imagine forgo things like Condoms.

The card mentioned in the quote in the OP, where they could vote down agendas that Germany and the Northern lot want. You are slow!

I don't think the Germans will buy that option. Merkel is already in trouble in the polls and that kind of hand-out would likely finish her off.

I'm asking why is that any different to the current situation with the UK still in the EU.

But if the 'Club Med' lot gang up together on the voting system they could bring down some of the EU's treasured policies. In other words they could force the arm of the Troika lot.

Because we would tend to vote with the Germans etc. and so making any 'Club Med' pack short on overturning any EU measures and so having a bargaining chip to get their way with the austerity policy - read the link!

If 'Club Med' try to pull a fast one on the Germans they might find that they had a Deutsch Ausfahrt on their hands - and that really would be the end of the EU.

What is the current split numerically?

Some are halfway out the door as it is and there is talk of the Northern lot forming their own Eurozone. Doesn't matter which way you cut the EU it is fucked because the disparities are so large now between the member states that none can afford to give or compromise anymore; their cupboards are bare - especially when they see the rich ones just working for themselves, which is not in the spirit of the EU founding fathers (or was it?).

The EU remains a highly successful trading block and helped to 'anchor for former Eastern Block countries into the democratic western world. However, the Euro was probably a step too far and the institution clearly needs reform. Possibly Brexit will force that at the top of their agenda. If not, their future does not look rosy and without Germany they would be finished.
P.S. Of course if the EU did 'Crash and Burn' it would not help us in the slightest, quite the reverse. It would trigger a period of extreme world economic instability.

You need to look up what the word "veto" means.

We (the West) are heading that way anyway. The whole Neo-Liberal project and its financial nightmare was destined from the start to crash and burn.
