I understand that the UKU (Union of Kitchen Utensils) are up in arms and threatening to strike as they were not consulted during the negotiations.

Dear Sane,

I trust that when you were considering your OP, thoughts of how serious this whole matter is to some posters on this forum ( me :P ) was uppermost in your mind.

Although I have to say the signs of the GBBO's  soggy bottom were showing, when Merry Berry asked contestants to bake the perfect Jaffa cake ( how can anyone improve on perfection ) the question of is it a biscuit or a cake never even arose ::)

And to add further insult to injury, some of the contestants woeful attempts at baking a Jaffa cake ( God bless the humble Jaffa, you can never just eat one :P ) were a sin against God.

Yes there are some things which even the Great BBC should leave well alone and one of those is "that humble biscuit cake the Jaffa cake".

Gonnagle.

I hear that 'sugar' is having second thoughts now, following attempts by C4 to sweeten the deal.

Hopefully they will be replaced by Glutenfree.

But therein lies the whole problem, Gonners.  The Great BBC wasn't in control; the show's owners - Love Productions - were.

The consensus in our family is that Mel and Sue were ready to leave anyway and this just gave them the perfect opportunity to draw a line under their involvement. Mary Berry will be 83 when the next series airs, so she is probably ready to stop too.

I'd like to be outraged at the loss of this institution but I haven't really watched GBBO since Baked Alaskagate. Everybody fingered the wrong culprit (http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/features/great-british-bake-off-the-biggest-scandals-in-the-tents-history-from-howards-custard-to-baked-10448106.html). Footage shown on Extra Slice clearly showed another contestant applying the merengue to his ice cream while it was in the freezer. Obviously, he had to have the door open while he was doing that which meant the warm air got in.
