Title: I Met A Trumpkin In The Flesh Last Week...
Post by: Keith Maitland on October 17, 2016, 08:02:10 PM
I sat across from a woman in a car dealer’s lounge area the other day. Both of us were there waiting for our cars to be serviced. "I am so sick of the election news”, she volunteered out of the blue. To be polite I nodded in the affirmative, but in truth I just wanted to get back to reading my book.

No such luck.

Without missing a beat, she used that comment to open the floodgates, and for the next fifteen minutes I endured listening to a livid Trump Republican toss out every racist cliché’, half-truth and immigrant hating piece of babble that has ever been chanted or preached at a Trump rally, including, but certainly not limited to, a Hillary-to-jail rant and a media conspiracy (sans Fox News) against the candidate.

I sat there nearly paralyzed; squinting at some remarks, nervously coughing at others and changing my position on my seat in cadence with each new diatribe. I’d read about this supposed 40-plus percent of our population, seen them on CNN Cable News, but never met one in the flesh until that morning. When she admitted that we certainly needed the Mexico wall, but it was naive to believe the Mexicans would pay for it, I excused myself and walked off to the showroom floor to escape. She was bright, articulate, certainly of some wealth and a retired professional.

They are out there, they’re Americans and I’m scared to death that so many of them have swallowed the poisoned Trumpkin pill.

I think Trump as president would be the worst thing to happen to the US and the world in a very long time! :o

I liked the comment made by a woman editor on the Andrew Marr program on Sunday where she thought the public are so fed up with their politicians over there in a similar way that we are fed up with our lot and voting Trunp was something like sending a cruise missile up the Jacksie of their political system.

I'm not quoting her verbatim but this is as I understand was her meaning.

I particularly like where our politicians say we're listening; meaning:  you've got no chance I'm going to do anything about whatever it is you're saying.

Too right.  The Americans are fed up with professional politicians.
Still it is quite scary to think Trump might well be elected.

Keith, you are one up on me, I have not met an American Trumpkin.
I did have lunch the other week with an American lady, a friend who lives in New York who is definitely not a Trumpkin.  Funnily enough she also said that people are fed up with politicians.

If I were a politician, I would be fed up with us.

"Trumpers" tend to be a mixture of the cynical, and the deranged. I would rather Gill Stein was picking up the anti Killary vote, but that don't seem to be happening.

And I understand that many Americans regard Hilary as only a rung behind him on the ladder of awfulness.

She might be awful, but at the bottom of the ladder of awfulness, whereas Trump is at the top! :o

But that is the point, Floo - even some Democrats put her only one rung below.  As Jeremy Paxman points out in the trailer to his programme on the US election, these are probably the two most disliked/distrusted candidates for President since such elections began.

A few years ago Hilary Clinton was quite popular.  I can't help feeling she has a bad press, I know there was that email business but even so, she isn't that bad surely?

What is hilarious (no pun), is that she and Bill and the Trumps were friends once.  Trump tries to deny that now but facts are facts, they even went to his wedding.

I've just seen his beautiful young wife on TV, defending him in her charming broken American-English.

His wife knows which way her bread is buttered!
