Title: Scandi-drama
Post by: T8-eh-T8 on November 07, 2016, 12:13:19 AM
If, like me, you like a Scandi-drama check out Occupied, on Netflix.

A Norwegian political thriller series. The Green Party Prime Minister announces that Norway is going to halt oil and gas production as they have a new energy source which is clean. The EU are not impressed and get the Russians to take over Norwegians oil facilities. Norway is technically occupied by Russia.

As stylish as The Bridge, as intriguing as Spin from Walter Presents.

I'm really enjoying it.

It's been on tv here in Finland for a few months now. I've been meaning to watch but haven't got round to it yet. There are some good tv series from this part of the world. Wallander is my favourite (not the one starring Kenneth Branagh).

"Occupied" was on, on Sky Arts, earlier this year - quite good - though can't quite remember exactly how it ended - probably a set up for a follow on series.

"The Bridge" and "The Killing" series' were good.  "Borgen" was the best, a welcome change from series on detectives chasing murderous psychopaths.  "Jordskott" and "Deutschland 83" worth a mention.

It is an interesting shift in the UK approach whereby it was long assumed that people wouldn't watch a show with subtitles. Of course they now have a certain cache.

I once heard a question of why the Swedish, say, speak better English than, say, the Spanish? The suggestion was that they dub TV and film from English to Spanish, but in general in Warren they are subtitled. Meaning that the written/spoken words association is more readily appreciated.

Mind you it does mean one has to actually watch the show rather than doing a number of simultaeous things like messing about on a tablet. If you miss the subtitles it is easy to get lost.

I also find myself turning up the volume to hear them speak, but I don't understand a word.
