Apparently, new F1 world champion has announced his retirement from F1 with immediate effect. Who do folk reckon will fill his seat at Mercedes?

One of the few memories I have of my dad, who died in 1965, is sitting as a four year old, watching Jim Clark together on the telly. Since then, I've followed F1 - and I admire Rosberg's decision. Had he stayed with the team, I think he would have had little chance to defend his crown - assuming Hamilton's reliability problems did not resurface next season. Hamilton is as clinical as a Shumacher, but as mercurial as a Senna - and the combination of that and a superb engineering package is daunting for any team mate.

I still maintain that Hakkenen was the best Finnish driver. Raikennin isn't in the same league!

I agree. Rosberg is a very good driver and deserved to win the title at some point in his career but it took everything he had to do it this year and he would have fallen short if Hamilton had even one less DNF. The only time Rosberg has been consistently outperforming Hamilton was the run of races at the end of last season when Hamilton had already won the title.

I'd like to see Vettel get the seat because I don't think he is as good as his four world titles suggest and I'd like to see him up against a really top driver in the same car.

Vettel and Hamilton in the same team would be a great - if volatile -combination. Either way, Hamilton needs a top notch driver as his foil to keep him sharp.

If he joins Mercedes, you should prepare to be disappointed, in the same car as Hamilton, he'll probably lose badly.
