Obviously sensible to protest this and stop a speech on women's rights.

And just when you would have imagined that Labour couldn't become more irrelevant.
-
I remember reading - perhaps forty years ago - an article by a political commentator which said that the Labour Party had a limited life-span and would eventually disappear. One of the arguments was that the tribal working class would disappear. Well, that was then and it didn't happen.
There have been a few occasions over the past decades when it has seemed that Labour's demise was likely but it was saved by the (now reviled) Tony Blair.
It is fortunate for Labour that we have first-past-the-post. Were we to have PR the party would fragment, with the tribal working class going to UKIP (or something similar). Or it may be that Corbyn's legacy - by encouraging the growth of left-wing support at the grass roots - may be to actually achieve this without a change in the voting system.

I never supported bombing Assad it troubles me. I think Corbyn and his stop the war buddies won the argument. I do wonder if in years to come with hindsight and the slaughter of thousands if it will cause stop the war to consider if they were actually right.

Was Jeremy making a plea to the nation? Was he actually trying to do something positive? . . . No he was addressing a small meeting of the party faithful and he couldn't even get that right. If the papers hadn't got hold of the story most people would never have heard of this speech.
The man is an irrelevance and he's making Labour irrelevant.

Yes, the man is not news, he is not soundbite savvy, why report on this boring man when you can report on Boris shooting his mouth off or May having tea with the Saudi's, Corbyn is not newsworthy, red, white and blue Brexit is.
I will say it again, he need do nothing, just sit back and watch the Tories implode.
Gonnagle.

Yes. I think people are one going to have remember where they put Labour.
I remember conversations ten years ago when people were saying the tories could never get back in.

The problem is G, even if the Tories were to imploded as you suggest (and I don't totally rule that out) - the British public would be unlikely to come running to the scruffy old man with a beard who only talks to his own weird crowd.

TBH When Corbyn took over I was filled with what I now see as a false hope. My 1st thoughts were "thank fuck, a socialist at the helm of a socialist party" until the realisation that he had no chance against the capitalists who actually run said party.....
-
Dear Lapsed,
It is difficult although not impossible to find out just who the scruffy old man is talking too, it takes a bit of digging on the internet to find out what he is all about, my opinion ( just me ) from what I am seeing, he is quietly gathering the troops, he is talking to all the people who are of the same mind set as his, he see's the Tories are in turmoil, Brexit is a gift to him.
If you dig below the media rhetoric, the one where, as you put it, a scruffy old man, you find a quiet but passionate man who see's the ill's of this Tory austerity nonsense, he see's how the Tories have split this country, Brexiteers, Remainers, he see's the Tories playing with our NHS and our kids education.
He has answers to all these ills but quite a lot of people don't like his answers, they are too heavily invested in this capitalist/privatisation nonsense, but any fool can see it does not work, it is a short term fix and the least privileged are the ones who always suffer.
The Railways are crumbling and it is not the fault of the Unions striking, it needs investment, heavy investment, giving our money to private investors does not work, they only care about the shareholders, we are now seeing cracks in the post office, they will be the next lot to go on strike, private investors main goal is profit, now that in itself is no bad thing but they want profit now, they don't see the value in giving great service which will give them long term profit, pure greed, the Tories with their little government mentality are not looking at the future, the Tories wanted to balance the books, which again is no bad thing, but not at the expense of services like the NHS crumbling, any car owner will tell you if you don't service your car properly you will have trouble in the future, pure commonsense, but then the Tories don't like the NHS.
Corbyn has the answers, although I don't agree with everything he stands for, he is anti monarchy, he is an Arsenal supporter but I do like the fact he owns an allotment, the country right now does not like his answers, but as the Tory way implodes and more people realise that their way was only hurting the country they might come round to his way of thinking, then again the way the world seems at the moment they might think that Farage and his storm troopers are the way forward, we are living in very interesting times.
Gonnagle.

What he needs to do is flush out all the remaining "tory blairites" from the party, and then hope there are more socialists than capitalists in the core party members to support him.

And then get rejected by the electorate as irrelevant & ineffective. Not to mention the perceived nature of the group of people he has surrounded himself with.
Diane Abbott a socialist?
Please stop it - my sides are aching with laughter.

Brexit could be 'a gift' to an astute well organised leader of an opposition party - i.e. not Corbyn.
I don't doubt that Corbyn has good intentions, but any politician who wants to gain power and bring about change needs get support from the centre ground - not just a narrow minority. Corbyn speaks only to the Corbynistas.
He has answers to all these ills but quite a lot of people don't like his answers, they are too heavily invested in this capitalist/privatisation nonsense, but any fool can see it does not work, it is a short term fix and the least privileged are the ones who always suffer.
Many privatised industries work very well. Does anyone imagine that the old Post Office could have rolled out the Internet and information technology systems that we all use and rely on today?
I think the government would say that investment in the Railways is a record levels and there certainly isn't a huge pool of public money ready to re nationalise. Corbyn has not costed plan to do anything with the Railways, it's just hot air.

Certainly interesting times, I grant you that, but Corbyn has nothing to contribute. He will have his hands full keeping UKIP out of his heartlands.
-

Ain't gonna happen.
Look what happened during the leadership selection. It looked like implosion time there for a bit and then suddenly, it all came right.
The Tories are too good at self preservation. Corbyn is going to have to win by beating them fair and square in an election. Unfortunately, he is not up to the job.
-
The danger is that Labour may have imploded before the Tories do.
If their current state isn't implosion, I don't know what is.

I think it's a very strange situation at the moment. I get the impression that there are a lot of people who are deeply unhappy with the way things are going but aren't ready to 'break cover'. At some stage there will be a crisis, then who knows what will happen. Maybe the Supreme Court verdict will trigger something?
. . . and as I write I have just noticed this:
