Few people in Scottish politics were as widely admired. Lovely man

Agreed, NS. Not only in politics, where he was very much held in the highest estemm, but amongst all the main churches in Scotland. I well remember him addressing the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland on two occasions, and I met him at an ecumenical committee on Scotland's future back around 1996.

A decent, thoughtful and quietly influential man - we could do with more like him.
