Title: Red sky at night...
Post by: Rhiannon on January 19, 2017, 07:53:05 AM
There were happy shepherds last night, but as the sky's red again this morning they must be confused ones now.

Seriously, the skies the last two dawns and dusks have been astonishing. And so blazing red last thing it was like heading into Mordor.

What, on the Northern Line?

.... oh, sorry Rhi. I misread that. I thought you said "heading into Morden" ....

What is dawn???  (I only see that if I'm up all night and about to go to bed.)
I'll make an effort to see the dawn in the future, if possible.  I hear the dawn chorus sometimes but it never occurs to me to look outside unless I have to put something in the dustbin.

I have to be up at 6.30 but even so it's easy to miss the sun coming up if the curtains are closed. When I moved here though I didn't have curtains up in my room for a couple of months (it's at the back of the house and I'm not overlooked) and as it (and my garden) faces east I got to watch the sun come up, and now I'm a bit of a dawn addict. And I get to see the moon rises too. Next door has a magnificent birch tree which I 'borrow' as a part of my view. Not long after we moved here we had the blood moon, which rose behind the birch; I watched it accompanied by the bats flying over and a glass of something. It was *gorgeous*.

I'm a bit of a moon fanatic. This morning it was about an inch away from Jupiter.  And yesterday I saw a flock of seagulls really high in the sky, gliding around on a thermal current. I thought they were extra terrestrials.

Spud, when sunlight reflects off gull's plumage they turn silver, and a flock of them gliding high is astonishing. I know exactly what you mean - they don't appear to be of this world.

It's caused by pollution.

Prosaic, but true.
