We use Freecycle after periodic clear outs. Good for passing on stuff you don't need that would otherwise end up in landfill. I suppose some things could be sold on e-bay or a local list, but can't be bothered with that. If no-one wants it, it goes to the tip.

What I want is a law that states that all packaging and goods at the end of their life can be returned to the retailer or manufacturer, for them to recycle or deal with under strict environmental controls.

What do you put into google to get a local reference? I tried but it only showed American links!

I pretty much get straight there (first hit) with "freecycle in Eastleigh" - where Eastleigh is my location.
"freecycle in Southampton" does the same for Southampton.

Only used it once; cleared out about thirty years worth of Dungeons and Dragons rulebooks, expecting to have to wait a few weeks to get a bite. Four calls within the hour, and the first guy turned up (by agreement) a little less than an hour later with two ten year old girls in the back of his car who were cracking works open as fast as he could load them.

Strangely rewarding to see something that brought me so much pleasure carrying on to do the same for someone else.

O.
