Wow! Not sure I'd cope with that, but I'm sure they had experiences they will remember.

Trouble is I'd feel guilty for scrounging off people, but then perhaps I miss out.

I think that I share your sensibilities, Rose. This is nothing more than - in some instances rather dressed up - scrounging.

Forget scrounging, some of what they did is extremely unwise.

I think their scrounging is horrible. They are enjoying themselves at the expense of others less fortunate than them! :o

Yes, frankly, they should be feeling guilty for scrounging. This was basically an unnecessary begging tour and they weren't above deception either.
