My earliest recollection of Peter Sallis was as a serious actor. He played Samuel Pepys is a BBC serial in 1958.
That was 60 years ago ...

I thought same but Peter Sallis was 96, quite a remarkable age & he is said to have died peacefully so it's not that sad,it was his time.
We'd all like to go that way having lived our life to the full, leaving behind happy memories.
