That the govt is opposing this and that the exemption was set up is shameful

This is the kind of thing that should have been debated some years ago. Some of us said that the whole issue of SSM should be referred to the Law Commission.
But we were shouted down as "Bigots" and "Homophobes".
-
That's because it's generally an entirely accurate description.
-
It is only fair and just that married pension rights should apply to gays as well.

That is an obvious wind up, which I going to ignore.

It is only fair and just that married pension rights should apply to gays as well.
Which is why the whole issue should have been referred to the Law Commission.

I didn't even realise that they didn't.
Still, fixed now.
-
People who are against gays having equal marriage rights are bigots and homophobes, imo.
-
That is an obvious wind up
No, a statement of fact as I see it.
which I going to ignore.
Whoops! Ignore fail!

Me either - I thought that ship sailed ages ago.
Just goes to show.

Why wouldn't we want equality of this kind for all, I'm glad this man won his case, it's a no brainer in my book.

Why wouldn't we want equality of this kind for all
"Because if you're gay you're not equal." - R. Sole

"Because if you're gay you're not equal." - R. Sole
I don't see this in the same way as you.
Not that it's that important, I'm not a gay person and if any couple wish to marry whatever their gender I can't see any good reason to treat any married couple in a differing way to any other, especially not granting inheritance rights etc., to any one singled out group.
Could you explain to me in what way, other than the obvious, gay people are not equal to any of us surely we're all human beings and due equal respect and treatment?

(I was being sarcastic, ippy).

I just can't understand why some have an issue with same sex relationships.

(I was being sarcastic, ippy).
Hence the quotation from 'R. Sole', :D

In the days before SSM became legal and we were campaigning to make it legal, why was it 'bigoted or homophobic' to suggest the issue of SSM be referred to the Law Commission?

Missed it, derrr, I have to admit I didn't think you had anything to do with that line of thought and was a bit surprised.

It is most welcome.
I find it hard to take the attitude that it should be referred to this or that body. It is surely about decency and fairness.
It would appear that some think that even though I pay exactly the same funds into my pension I am not due to the same benefits purely as a result of my sexuality.
I have been with my partner for 38 years now why should he not be entitled to exactly the same benefits as the opposite sex spouses of my work colleagues?
I find it quite depressing to read that sort of comment.

Trent:- It is surely about decency and fairness.

I agree with you Trent but the remark originally made was, I thought, referring to what could or should have been done in the days before there was SSM. The fact is such equal rights had to be fought for, sad and unjust though that was.

I didn't read it as such. If that was the meaning then I apologise.

No need to apologise to me, Trent.i may have misunderstood, wouldn't be the first time - but everyone on this thread is pleased with the step as far as I can tell, even if it was a long time coming.
