As I don't intend to stay on my street forever, I'm constantly looking in Estate agents' shops & in articles. I live in Nelson, near Burnley in the North West. I can see the fantastic Pendle Hill if I look left as I go out my door !!!
Now THIS came on my email.... Interesting to see where you all live...

Good investments - buy-to-let - for anyone with spare cash. The places are bound to go up in price even if slowly.
Excellent to know there are areas with good sized properties costing less than half a million quid, means young people will be able to afford to buy early on their careers.
Pendle looks beautiful.
Was surprised to see Co Durham so cheap.
I know a young couple moving to S Wales, they've been struggling financially for some time in Bromley. They can transfer job wise and buy bigger house. Seems a shame though.
This from Rightmove about Bromley (I live and work in Bromley):-
"'The majority of sales in Bromley during the last year were flats, selling for an average price of £345,798. Terraced properties sold for an average of £424,523, with semi-detached properties fetching £556,777.
Bromley, with an overall average price of £479,916, was similar in terms of sold prices to nearby Burnt Ash (£482,340), but was cheaper than Southborough (£691,401) and Bickley (£613,362).
Overall sold prices in Bromley over the last year were 6% up on the previous year and 25% up on the 2014 level of £384,483."

In the past we have rented out a couple of houses we owned, it was a pain in the neck. In one case the tenants defaulted on the rent, and we had to get them evicted, and another lot of tenants left the property in a terrible mess. No way on earth would we wish to rent out a property again.

Some manage to do it through an agent who takes a fee does all the legal stuff & examines the property regularly. Seems to work out quite well. I couldn't be bothered personally but you hear so many saying 'property is an investment', 'put your money in property', 'you get nothing from bank savings' etc.
Too much hassle, i'm happy as I am. It was a passing thought when I saw how cheap housing is in some areas.

My sister and husband own an apartment which they rent out, they have an agent who takes care of things for them. I guess it is a nice little earner, as the rent is no doubt a good few thousand a month I should think.

Which artificially raises house prices, contributes to the shortage of available properties and forces locals out of the market. Nice little earner indeed.

Houses prices are nearer the million mark plus in my home island.

I couldn't afford to live there these days, but I am quite happy living in the UK, having lived here for all but the first 19 years of my life.

Floo already said & has mentioned previously - Channel Islands! Very nice they are too but she's lived in UK for donkeys' years.
Whatever our houses are worth (& I've no idea about mine), doesn't matter unless we want to move - which you do Trippy, hope you find what you want.

Only in Guernsey. In Jersey you'd get toad off for using an expression like that.
