The original The Nutty Professor is a comic masterpiece.

I always thought he was deeply unfunny.

I always thought he was deeply unfunny.

His style of comedy certainly seems to be out of fashion - I cannot remember the last time one of his films was shown on TV.

I tend to agree that it wasn't particularly funny and at times (to me at least) excruciatingly embarrassing. Norman Wisdom had much the same effect on me, too.

I'm OK with a bit of Norman Wisdom - frankly I could watch The Early Bird until my eyeballs drop out of my head - but JL's style of comedy seemed to put gurning over any gift for comedy that I could ever see ... the same goes for Jim Carrey.

Jerry Lewis was like Marmite - love or hate. Can't say i ever saw much of his work, what i did was not my sorta thing.

Just how I felt!

He was clever and inventive in ways other than his style of comedy. Iirc he invented something that is still used today in filming,a google search would probably show what it was*. There's always a bit more to a person than the bit we see.

I did find Norman Wisdom - since he's been mentioned - quite funny when he was trying vto be funny; what I hated was the syrupily sentimental interludes in his films, like that awful song "Don't laugh at me".
