Religion flies you into buildings. True or false? What do you think?
-
Ah yes but science gives you nuclear weapons.

Ah yes but science gives you nuclear weapons.
And religion a desire for a nuclear apocalypse.

and politicians decide what to do with them!

And religion a desire for a nuclear apocalypse.
Well possibly - but I really don't think it is as simple as A = Good, B = Bad.
Do you?
To risk Godwin, was Hitler's various little dalliances with scientific experiments on humans provoked by religion or just by the fact that he was fucking shit of a human being?

First religion, now politicians. This argument appears to be not entirely consistent.

Not sure if current events back that one to the hilt.

Didn't know Hitler was a scientist?

Of course not. Just the opposite. I think that both A and B have the capacity to be colossal tosspots.

Didn't know Hitler was a scientist?
Not personally, no; but he had plenty at his beck and call.

Not the whole picture. Certainly you need some heavy-duty physicists to crunch the numbers necessary to develop nuclear weapons, but it takes the military and politicians to go ahead and use them. The head of the Manhattan Project was Maj. Gen. Leslie Groves reporting directly to the President; scientists such as Leo Szilard* were the ones trying to prevail upon Washington not to use what had been unleashed.
* Co-signer with Einstein of a famous pre-war letter to Roosevelt warning of the possibility of "a new kind of weapon ..."

and now the potential to provide a new power source for mankind.

Quite. But the original post implied it was religionists that were the bad guys. All I was getting at was that nutters come in all shapes, sizes and mind sets.

As a generalisation, that's what I was implying.
