As if only gay men and lesbians would be allowed to dance together.

I think that it is a matter of whether the TV company think that it will boost their ratings.

I went to a same sex school from age 11and we danced together. In fact lots of girls used to dance round their handbags, never thought it was gay to do so (was nicer to dance with bloke as time went on).
Jewish men dance together at celebrations and so do Greek men.
Same sex dancing not a gay issue!

Even then it is not an issue!

not to me but it is to some.

Some can make an issue out of opening a Quality Street chocolate the "wrong" way!

Are you allowed to dance without having sex after? If so, what is the problem actually?

In the case of those who oibject to two people of the same sex dancing together they assume that it is a prelude to sex in all cases.

You mean it isn't? ;)
My straight work colleague who, whenever we go out on a works night out always insists on dancing with me, would be most amused by that thought.
Although seriously I did see some report somewhere about how dance is a codified type of sex (or some such sentiment). Which makes sense as it will have evolved from courtship rituals? Or maybe dancing evolved into a courtship ritual?
I do not know enough about this - help someone.
-
Well ... basically, everything is a codified form of sex, however people vary in what actually gets the hormones flowing.

I must tell myself that when I am in the middle of the next lot of house decorating I do!

What about one person dancing on their own?

WELLLL
NOBODY love them, eh ?!?!!? ;) ;D ;D

Being a Strictly fan, some dancing certainly looks as though it is a prelude to sex, very romantic too, even though it isn't! Nothing to do with being gay, when you think back to dancers like Ian Waite doing the jive with Darcey. If you haven't seen it it's worth a look, on You Tube. Ian looks as though he has been given his birthday and Christmas presents all at once!
As for the Argentine tango - wow.
Sometimes there is a dance routine with all the men dancing, another with all the women. They generally mix up at the end. Doubt they all go off and have sex afterwards.
I love dancing & watching it, all sorts. Also quite happy to dance alone if I have music on that makes me feel like it. I can be more inventive on my own, not afraid to make an idiot of myself. The curtains can figure too but I've never felt sexy with a drape.
-
If you allow two people of the same sex to dance together, where will it end? Will you allow brother and sister to dance together? What about more than two people? Before you know it, we'll have large bands of people roaming the countryside all dancing together. It's disgusting.

I will not think about this at all ... honest ..lol.

Dancing with Chimps? celebrities dancing with non celebrities?
Lets not forget Strictly Come Dancing has made great strides in the cause of Beautiful people/ Ugly people dancing.

Lots of young brothers and sisters start out ballroom dancing together, learning and competitively, but they don't do 'sexy' stuff and split up as they get older. Kevin and Joanne Clifton are an example.
On the other hand all sorts of people dance together as a team. Line dancing, Scottish dancing, ballet and some ballroom routines.

I mean the music starts while I am behind the long curtains and then leap out as if from the wings of the stage (only done in private though youngsters have been known to do that & have a lot of fun as long as they don't pull the curtains off the rail and make mum cross).
I will not think about this at all ... honest ..lol.

There you are, you see, we are careering down the slippery slope. Next they'll be putting dancing on the telly before the watershed.

Worse is compulsory dancing in schools :(. It was the Gay Gordons for mine!

Is same sex dancing really a gay issue?
If it's yet another example of heteronormative displays being codified as the norm, and excluding homosexual displays from mass media, then yes, I guess it's a gay issue. Is it amongst the most pressing gay issues in history, probably not, but some of that is to do with the successes that have already been gained from raising 'gay issues' to the public consciousness.
Of course, pitched against it is the tradition and history of competitive dancing, particularly the Latin and ballroom that are the heart of Strictly, which is built around mixed-sex couples after the age of about fourteen.

Really? I understand heterosexual men and women are excluded from dancing together from Strictly Come Dancing, and non celebrity people, and chimps of whatever sexual orientation.
You're demonstrating a bit of Issue imperialism on this.

Oh look, Vlad's got a new Imperial horse to flog... *yawn*

My take on this is that its not so much a question of who leads & who follows, its more a matter of costume. Part of the appeal of this show is the glamorous costumes, and the contrast between the male costumes, and the female costumes. To put two men dancing together would be like having what is traditionally a tenor and baritone duet sung by two baritones, one would lose the contrast and the performance would be less interesting.
