Just to note the death of Sir Peter Hall yesterday. I think that he was a truly great supporter of the Arts in general, and of Drama and Opera in particular. One of my favourite plays, 'Waiting for Godot', was introduced by him to the London stage. I have been privileged to enjoy many marvellous performances by the Royal Shakespeare Company(which he founded) at the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre in Stratford on Avon. Indeed, I hope to see the touring RSC company putting on Shakespeare's Othello in Hull in a few month's time.
He worked with many of the greatest names in the British theatre, both at the RSC, later at the national Theatre, and then with his own Company. In the field of Opera also, he was an internationally recognised director.
It is sad to say that he ended his years as a victim of dementia, but his contribution to the Arts will be remembered for a very long time.

I absolutley loved his adaptation of the Camomile Lawn, which starred his daughter, Rebecca, when she was ten. One of the best things I've seen on television as well as a very fine novel.
