I learned to drive in my late twenties, lost my nerve and as I didn’t get much encouragement I gave up driving pretty much immediately after I passed my test. In my early forties I decided to push through my phobia, had refresher lessons and bought a car. This in turn led to me being able to leave a horrible relationship and get my independence. I live somewhere rural and a car is a necessity.

If health problems prevented me driving I’d give up; I can’t envisage me living in a city situation where a car isn’t needed.

I really like driving but haven't had a car for 7 years. Lived in cities where it isn't that useful and when needed use either City Car or equivalent for short journeys, or hire cars for longer. Have a parking space that I rent out. When last I had a car it was a company car that had done 5000 miles in 3 years.
