At least you can marry him if he accepted your proposal now.

So instead of debating the issue properly & in an adult manner, it's turned into a sickly love fest.

False dichotomy there. It's a rather beautiful moment in the debate not the whole debate. I ses nothing sickly about two people in love.

Nor do I, gay or straight.

it is deliberate piece of exhibitionism designed to influence the debate.

What if this were a straight couple?

What if this were a straight couple?

I suppose the equivalent would be "Will you enter into a civil partnership with me?" which does not have the same impact.

A straight couple wouldn't feel they had to make a point. It's unfortunate but gay couples still do & this couple did!

But why is Humph assuming this is exhibitionism?

I don't know, I presume he is "old school" in the sense that proclamations of undying devotion are made in private. Generally I'd go along with that, feel embarrassed about public displays, but feel this case was an exception.

I don't know if you are aware but Australia recently had a referendum on whether equality of marriage rights for all should be allowed or not. The answer was pretty strongly in favour of letting gay people marry the people they love, if they want.

This gesture was something in the way of a victory celebration. Once things have settled down, gay people will have about the same inclination to propose marriage in an "exhibitionist" way as straight people. But allow them their victory.

I have been shopping today, you may be correct.

But I will never forgive the Oz for inflicting the Minogue sisters onto the world. Whatever we may have done, we did not deserve that.

If Jesus had been gay, which is possible, having a specific disciple whom he loved, maybe he would have married him if that had been possible in those days.

Floo, what the Oz choose to do within their own jurisdiction is up to them.

As to whether Jesus would have wanted to marry a man when he did not seem to want to marry a woman is not a matter for the Oz parliament.

Firstly in those days and in that part of the world I don't think marriage and fathering children was a romantic thing but a social duty thing.

Secondly knowing his mission and fate he would have avoided any type of attachment that might have jeapordised that. So no Mr or Mrs Jesus.
