Ok this is from the Wail, but...

Strictly has slain the dragon of the Chav Factor. Now perhaps we will have some memorable tunes to remember future Xmas'es, rather than having to hear Bing, Perry, Slade, Wizzard, Shaky, Spice Girls, and Band Aid every fickin year.

FTR my favourite Xmas Song

As long as nobody mentions Bastard Fairytale of Fucking New Twatting York by the Pox-Riddled Pogues (no offence to the late, lovely and sainted Kirsty MacColl, mind you), the worst, the dreariest Christmas record ever made and inexplicably apparently the most popular according to many surveys of worthless opinion, I'm happy.

Calm down Steve, you are Shaking ;)
FWIW I do not care for such a dreary song to be played every year so as to ruin my Xmas either.
But I like Sean, he looks like a sack of shit & he makes me look like a menopausal's pin up boy.
And NO Rhi I will not apologise for that.
-
Didn't know the Ray Coniff singers were still alive!
I like the Holly and the Ivy, the Pogues and SLADE, so there! For some reason I like 'Holding Back the Years' by Simply Red too, makes me well up.

I am of the opinion that Mr Blobby singing "Mr Blobby" wins that prize by a country light-year!

It's in my top two Christmas songs along with Happy Christmas (War is Over).
-
Forgot that one (War is Over), thanks for reminding me Jeremy! Love it.
-
Gaudette - Steeleye Span. (Though I'd settle for "After the gold rush"
-
Good reminder, Jim, we ended up playing that at breakfast, a very nice version (Gaudete). I think one of the few chart hits completely in Latin! Then we segued into Jeff Buckley and the Corpus Christi Carol, but I think not a Christmas carol. That got me thinking about pub carols in Yorkshire, supposedly, songs banned by the church, not sure about that. Some of them on youtube I think.
-
I prefer something like 'Here Comes Summer', at least from the 21st of this month. :D

Lovely Rhi, I'm a Kate Bush fan (good 2c u btw) . Here are the lyrics:
Take a husky to the ice
While Bing Crosby sings White Christmas
He makes you feel nice
December will be magic again
Old Saint Nicholas up the chimney
Just a-popping up in my memory
Ooh, dropping down in my parachute
The white city, she is so beautiful
Upon the black-soot icicled roofs
Ooh, and see how I fall
See how I fall
(Fall!)
Like the snow
Better to hear it though.
-
And the rest of the lyrics.
Come to cover the lovers (Cover the lovers)
But don't you wake them up
Come to cover the dark up (Sparkle the dark up)
With just a touch of make-up
Come to cover the muck up (Cover the muck up)
Ooh, with a little luck
December will be magic again
Light the candlelights
To conjure Mr. Wilde
Into the Silent Night
Ooh, it's quiet inside
Here in Oscar's mind
December will be magic again
Kiss under mistletoe
Don't miss the brightest star
I want to hear you laugh
Don't let the mystery go now
It's on Spotify.

Wonderful!
I love KB & sorry I missed her come back concert at Hammersmith. Intend to buy the dvd.

Kate is our suburban pin up girl. And best of all, she always insists that she is from Kent, not "south east London".
-
Bexleyheath. Brought up in East Wickham near Welling :( of all places. Studied at Goldsmiths though so that's cool.

Welling is usually considered to be Kent because people living in the Greenwich Borough don't want to be associated with it. I remember one local goon wanted to punch my lights out one Sunday lunchtime in the saloon bar of the Guy Earl of Warwick, I was sitting at the bar blocking his view of the optics.
-
I don't know Welling but remember years ago it used to be associated with right wing groups like the NF.
Wouldn't have been so in Kate Bush's little farmyard area of course which is mainly associated with pretty things like butterflies :D.
