Saw this last week. Absolutely loved it. Yes it’s flawed, but it’s still brilliant.

Not everyone agrees

Tis an odd thing that I love a lot of sci-fi/fantasy but Star Wars leaves me cold. The original did nothing for me and nothing has since.
I view them so badly that I would rather sit through Star Trek 5 - The Final Frontier. Although obviously I don't want to.
-
Hells' bells! Speaking as a Treekie who has everything from the animated series, through Enterprise, to all the movies, I'd agree, TV. The final frontier elevates 'hellish' to a new level of reality.

From what I’ve gathered those who don’t like it object to the fact there are a) lots of women in positions of power and b) ... sorry, spoiler.

Well not in my case. I just can't engage with it - the only way I can describe it is that it 'feels' cold to me. It's very odd, my friends who used to take me to see the films think I'm damaged in some way. :(
This is not the only franchise that has this effect - LOTR is unmitigated tosh. Cue cries of horror from Tolkein aficionados.

Gorgeous men with beards. What’s not to like?

And that's another thing. Beards. What's that all about? All of a sudden we have beards everywhere. Ban them I say, ban them. (Except for Gordon, obviously)

This Tolkien addict (who has read LOTR and the Silmarrilion umpteen tmes and even managed to read "The sons of Hurin three times) was dragged to see "Fellowship" at the cineama and was almost ejected for screaming in rage.

There’s a dating site that matches people with beards with people that like to stroke them.
-
Now that is just disgusting.
Just knowing about such a thing makes you depraved.
Well that's just nonsense.
I didn't know about it until half an hour ago and I was depraved beforehand.

Well you can be depraved for more than one reason tha knows. ;)

'n me as well.

And elves. LOTR has elves. And they are very pretty.
Admittedly the Last Jedi is less aesthetically pleasing.

What I meant was that it appears those who don’t like The Last Jedi specifically are white males who are big Star Wars fans and who object to it no longer being almost exclusively theirs.

I'd say it's good, not brilliant. There's too much flab for it to be brilliant and too many gaping plot holes.

Certainly they didn’t need the casino. Could have been much more tightly written.
Still loved it though.

Agreed.

I enjoyed it but I didn't love it. I loved The Force Awakens, probably for the nostalgia.
One positive point though is it has got some of the hardcore fans riled up in anger.
