Title: Do I celebrate? or not?

Palace drew with the squillionaire team Man City.

But I am a Charlton supporter.

Should I cheer Palace?

Yes. Always cheer both teams and remember in the interest of good sportsmanship it's not the winning but the taking part that counts. Something our fellow posters from Scotland know a lot about  ;).

No. It's the winning. In Premier League football it is absolutely the winning.

Anyway Crystal Palace held Man City to a draw. I'd cheer but Arsenal continued their lousy season also with a draw.

No. I went out with a Palace supporter who was a bit of a dipstick. Reason enough not to I think you’ll agree.

Reminds me of 'Fever Pitch' by Nick Hornby, a very fine novel.   Anyway, he describes how football provides a safe place to express dark feelings such as hatred, envy, triumphalism, disappointment, and so on.   And also good feelings such as happiness and pleasure.   And also companionship, which he found with his father.

I found it convincing when I first read it, and I still do.  I learned about it practically, when I used to watch Chelsea, and I would venture some approval of an opposing player's skill, and would be drowned out by 'yeah, but he's a f*** c***'.    Well, both arguments have merit.
