My point is that what was considered a novelty charity record in 2004 (As I remember it was released at the same time as one of the Band Aid versions) would probably not be considered to be acceptable today, despite the fact that it is closer in time to the present than are the Spice Girls!

FTR I did not buy the record since I considered it to be crap, my generation had the Can Can joke in 1981 with Bad Manners' version, you cannot keep telling the same joke & expect people to find it amusing.
