Talking Pictures TV has Villian an early seventies turn by Richard Burton as Vic Dakin. Not as tight as Get Carter but I think British film and TV crime followed the elements of Villain rather than Get Carter which was perhaps a gritty version of Z Cars rather than a proto Sweeney.
