This is one of those stories that while important will struggle to be clearly explained or understood. It's impact seems both exaggerated, and minimised as pundits strain to deal with Big Data implications. And removing yourself from Facebook will only create more points of data.

All very murky.
Just as in medieval times when the Church could use its power to control and manipulate people through control of information, it seems we are still being manipulated by people with the money and the know how. It's getting harder to know who and what to trust

Isn't the BBC a slightly more successful version of the paddles on a pin ball table?

No idea of what you are trying to say here, or how it might be relevant to the thread.

It's not a multi paged thesis, so no surprises there.

I am sceptical of some of the idea of manipulation. It seems to overestimate people's abilities and as all a bit Illuminati conspiracy. That doesn't mean that I think they aren't trying to do it.

Just a little more clarification is all that I asked for.

As per post 2 on this thread it looks like manipulation wont be going out of fashion any time soon, a comment, not me looking for an argument.

That's great, thank you, not really sure what it has to do with your comment on the BBC though. I haven't said you are looking for argument, I just found your comment a bit gnomic. And yes manipulation will always be with us but that doesn't mean that what is going on is easy to understand. Big Data is something we have to consider clearly to even begin to understand the problems.
