She will be returning to the back benches where she will - at least have the opportunity to - speak about the Farage-induced insanity which will transform the United Kingdom into the Venezuela of Europe. With luck, Theresa May will have created an enemy.

That might be to her advantage if Brexit is the disaster it looks like being.
She and Anna Soubry will make a great leader of the opposition and shadow home secretary when brexiting tories are giving speaking tours on the Isle of Wight ferry.

I thought yesterday that Rudd would be gone very soon, when she stated she was staying on. Making a statement like that is usually the kiss of death.
I hope they don't replace her with that idiot, Gove, the education system has never recovered from his term of office as Education secretary.
I wonder how much longer May can go on?

Apparently, Rudd had written to May about her revised target for deportation, so she had to go, having said that she didn't know about any targets. So far, so dishonest, but what does this say about May?

Interesting to see Vince Cable predicting more problems for May. Hang on, didn't the Lib Dems support the 2014 Immigration Act, which enshrined the hard line on immigrants? Come to that, I think Labour abstained, with honourable exceptions, e.g. Corbyn.

Vince Cable talked about that a couple of weeks ago on QT, he was saying how politicians have to take responsibility for decisions they make that turn out to be right and that included his party.

Joke going around that Rudd had to resign over May's policies. Quite amusing, I suppose, but why do I feel depressed? Just the dysfunctional nature of politics, I guess. May will now deny to all and sundry that her policies were heartless and cruel. They say we get the politicians we deserve.

Somebody reminded me of the Jeremy Thorpe quote, which cheered me up, 'greater love hath no man, than to lay down his friends for his own life'. About Macmillan, I think.

If I were in Theresa May's shoes, I'd be disappointed because I'd be looking for a way out of my job. A nice leadership challenge with an honourable defeat would do nicely.
I can't believe May thinks any of this is any fun whatsoever.

I must confess that, when I read that Sajid Javid had got the job on the front of the Evening Standard, I mixed him up with Sadiq Khan, and thought she'd appointed the Labour Mayor of London for a minute or so!

Good quote - pity it came from a chap who was probably guilty of incitement to murder.
I see there's a film around starring Hugh Grant which deals with the affair. The trailers seem to suggest that the writer/director don't quite agree with Thorpe's acquittal.
