I just bought one this week too!
They are an iconic brand but are trading on their history of being top dogs, along with Fender, and there are more competing high-end makers (like PRS) these days and while 'that' name on the headstock still does have kudos over the last few years their attempts to modernise (for example self-tuning guitars) didn't go down well with guitar players, who just ignored the 'modern spec' models and stuck to the tried and tested classics (as I just did).
I'd imagine the Gibson that survives will concentrate on the much-loved models that are mostly 1950's/early 60's designs.
