It's a difficult one, this sort of stuff. It's very easy to see benefits and the possible costs in such technology. The incident itself seems to not itself anything other than an error but one that seems more likely than it is portrayed. The problems that Suri had with the Scottish accent are indicative that voice recognition this general can be problematic. It's also too easy to see devices that are obviously doing this type of interaction as the only problem, the more the technology advances, the more all devices will essentially run this form of interaction.

We had the Amazon Prime video app open while talking about certain films. Next time we went into the website, they came up as recommendations.

To lighten this, one of the great sketches on the Scottish accent and voice recognition.

More seriously, it is not just about voice control. If I had not disabled it, I would get recommendations on what I wrote on here on FB and Twitter. Technology is difficult to control overall but as it gets quicker and 'cleverer' then regulation which gets slower with added complexity falls behind. The attempts of GDPR regulation which has led to a lot of communication that wasn't ended and yet probably will affect substantially small companies illustrate how hard this is to do.
And yet, as Canute tried to show, you cannot stop some things merely by fiat, and there could be huge benefits from this type of techology.

Excellent sketch.
