There was a BBC series on this a year or so ago, which I took a particular interest in, as it was presented by Olivia Horsfall Turner, architectural historian. It was called 'Dreaming the Impossible: Unbuilt Britain'. It's a great pity that Sir Christopher Wren's plans for rebuilding London after the great fire were never realised, but the powers that were realised that they had to rebuild as quickly as possible, to re-house the thousands living in temporary shanty-towns, so they eventually re-built on the surviving street plan.
