Yes I know this is Brexit related, but it's so :o it kind of deserves its own thread.

I guess May's Brexit is too soft for him? Will the Ultras turn against her? Another election?
-
I thought she'd got away with it, with Gove and Johnson toeing the line. Rees Mogg is talking about betrayal and country first. Fuck me, what a shambles.
-
On Saturday morning when it was proclaimed that a consensus had been reached and the cabinet was behind Mrs May I said to my beloved "I give it 48 hour".
I have a tent and shawl and crystal ball and take bookings at very reasonable rates.
-
Like this from Scientists for the EU:
Brexit is falling apart under the weight of its own contradictions.
Ministers are running away because they just cannot weave the dream-fog into real-world nuts n’ bolts that they can stand by.
-
Seen Davis and his fellow ministerial resignee described as DExEUs Midnight Runners
-
If May is forced out, as seems possible, her replacement might be a million times worse, like Boris, Rees-Mogg or heaven help us, the ghastly man, Gove! :o

Given how our govt works, the question of who the PM is, is essentially irrelevant.
-
Given how our govt works,
Well that's a whole world of wrong right there ;)
-
Comment from an EU Diplomat that given the negotiations in Brussels have taken several hundred hours, and that David has been involved in a total of 4 hours, and he was based in London, they will just deal with whomever London sends

Indeed. The hard brexit supporters are not a large component of the parliamentary Conservative Party - which is itself a minority government held in place by the support of the DUP. It is doubtful that there would be sufficient support for Johnson, Gove or heaven help us, the ghastly man Rees-Mogg. :o
I suspect that the odds of an approaching election have shortened considerably.
-
When I was around 3, I painted myself into a corner, and then seeing no way out, painted myself. It feels sort of like that here. I don't see the govt surviving without some form of Brexit, the govt cannot agree on a form of Brexit, but it cannot afford to go to an election, and it's not clear what the largest opposition party would say anyway, the people arguing for a 'people's vote ' on a deal have no chance of a deal being agreed because of the govt not being able to decide what it wants and then having the same problem with elections that the govt has.
-
Wow!
I counted 82 words in that sentence. And it made good sense!
-
I suspect that the odds of an approaching election have shortened considerably.
Which should make us weep at the lack of effective opposition.
-
The headline on Yahoo is that May is trying to avoid a Troy rebellion.
-
Wow!

And was a considerable over simplication
-
Wondering if headline in Evening Standard just going to be 'Hahaha'
-

Well, she probably feels under siege at the moment, and realises that the negotiations are all Greek to most people. The opposition just need to find her Achilles heel. She's a pretty disastrous Priam Minister.
-

More likely the evil version, Mwahaha!
-
... She's a pretty disastrous Priam Minister.
... and he was toppled by wooden horse which he thought was a gift ...
-
Melanie Phillips suggesting that to save the people's faith in democracy, May gets dumped, Farage made into a lord, given leadership of Tory part and PMship

Oh very good. :D

Of course.

Surely that's Newsthump. Surely?!?

I feel sorry for satirists these days.

I suspect that the Ultras cannot challenge May, as they would lose, the Tories would look like a rabble, and most significantly, they have no clue what to do about Brexit. The idea of no deal is nonsense. Can you imagine not trading with EU, planes not flying, companies leaving? National suicide. As far as I can see Davis contributed few ideas on Brexit, but then, who has? Obviously, the civil servants.
-
A friend just said to me that logically no deal would mean closing the ports to EU traffic, in both directions. I think 'no' is being used oddly here.

Good article on Davis

Quote from Raab, Davies' replacement on users of food banks
"the typical user of a food bank is not someone who’s languishing in poverty, it’s someone who has a cashflow problem.”

Dick.
I fucking despair.
-
Johnson resigned too
-
Like he'd have had the balls had Davis not jumped first.
-
Just to note Johnson was using a turn of phrase familiar to readers of this forum at the end of last week
https://sputniknews.com/europe/201807081066160723-johnson-uk-eu-vassal-state-may/
-
Well, I was betting that the Brexiteers wouldn't have the balls to unseat May, and go for no deal. Maybe.
-
Read elsewhere 'You can always rely on Boris Johnson to be second over the parapet '

Yes, astonishing how ignorant Davis is about the EU. But are the others any better? It's only the civil servants keeping them afloat.
-
Hearing that the 1922 Committee have sufficient letters calling for a leadership election.
-
Not bad jokes from Corbyn, they couldn't resign on Friday, as because of government cuts, there were no buses from Aylesbury. I wonder what he's really thinking? Is this my time?
-
We need Malcolm Tucker more than ever now!

Boris has now resigned and more resignations are threatened.

Yes, we know, which is why it was posted about 2 hours ago on this thread
-
Interesting summary on BBC news - the Ultras daren't, Mrs May can't, Boris wishes he only could, and Davis is out of his depth (I made that last bit up).
-
Like he'd have had the balls had Davis not jumped first.
Nope. He's timed it for maximum embarrassment to May.
-
As far as I am concerned, Boris Johnson sealed his own political death warrant by fucking up the situation involving Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe.

Unfortunately, things like that don't kill political careers anymore. Metaphorically stabbing Teresa May in the back has probably done it. I say "metaphorically" because, even if he's caused her to get the boot, she won't be spending any time in an Iranian jail. Neither will he, unfortunately.

Before that, with the rugby ball?
-
Normally, you would say that Boris is finished, but he may be calculating that if talks break down, and there is no deal, there will be such chaos, empty supermarket shelves and so on, that he will be able to come back. Thor help us.

I see Ben Bradley has resigned. Worth reading the details of things he hasn't resigned for.

He seems like a scumbag - I can see why he did well in the Tory party.
