Title: Nutters - and Stephen Hawking - of the conspiracy world unite!
Post by: Anchorman on August 16, 2018, 09:19:33 AM
It's not often you get an article on conspiracies which has the usual pyramidiots....but this one's mildly diverting. Where else would you find Graham Hancock and Stephen Hawking in the same story? http://m.cairoscene.com/Listicles/conspiracy-theories-ancient-egypt

The pyramids-on-the-7000-year-old-egg is easily explainable: who says they are the pyramids? It might just be an abstract design. If it is, maybe the designer of the pyramids was inspired by the design on the egg, rather than the design being a depiction of already-existing pyramids.

S'even more mundane, though. The 'pyramids' are, in all probability, stylised waves - symbolising the river (the Egyptians had no word for 'Nile'.) A few hundred years on, the symbol was a kind of small, three wavy curve - the heiroglyph used for the next four thousand odd years for water. The tringle design appears on literally tens of thousands of pots from the Naqqada period...so many that the  'plain of pots' at Abydos is litereally full of frgments of them - anyone can picke thep up and remove them without the government throwing a wobbly! Ostrich eggs made pretty good water containers - especially as the Naqqada pots were pretty porous. What more logical than to put a water design on them?

Talking of the pyramids - I once started (but did not finish) reading 'The Travels of Sir John Mandeville', the 14th-Century travelogue. While in Egypt, he describes seeing the giant grain silos built by order of Joseph to store grain in before the predicted famine, as described in Genesis, and it suddenly dawned on me that he must mean the pyramids!

Yep.
those would be the same pyramids ol' C.T. Russell called " a Second Bible in Stone" and claimed that measuring the internal dimentions resulted in a prophesy of the Second Coming!
Russell - and his predessor Smythe - were nicknamed 'pyramidiots' by W.M. Flinders Petrie - himself a (somewhat radical) evangelical, who newvertheless is responsible for the dating system of stratification and pottery daying we still use today.....and who, by the way, collected some fantastic examples of Naqqada pottery, now in the Petrie Museum attatched to University college, London.)

And the idea didn't die out with him as per Ben Carson
