I wish they would make up their minds. First they say a very moderate intake is good for you, next it is bad! ::)
I drink a very tiny amount of brandy three times a week. My husband likes a small single malt whisky on a Sunday lunchtime, it mustn't clash with the meds he has morning and evening.
I don't think either of us would be devastated if we had to give up drink altogether.

Hear hear.
I'm here for a good time, not a long time.

Your intake is moderate LR - very moderate. Don't worry, we'll soon be advised to eat more fat and sugar.

I am not worried, although I have to be very careful because the statins I was on for a very high familial cholesterol level didn't do my liver any good at all. :o Neither my husband or I have ever been drunk, I don't think we ever touched any alcohol at all until we were well into our 20s, our parents were TT. The idea of having a hangover does not appeal to either of us.

This is a more nuanced report of the findings.

So what it is saying is that if I drink a scotch at night before bed the odds of it being unsafe is negligible, whereas if I drink a scotch and then drive home, it isn't.
Wow.

In bed, if you're alone, all you're going to do is sleep and a drink or two isn't going to hurt, it will enhance sleep (not good if you've had a skinful but a little is alright).
Driving is a different matter, many are not fit to drive after one glass! Others - big people mainly - are OK after a pint.
Because I am relatively thin and a lightweight regarding booze, I would not drive after drinking even a small amount. Unless a few hours had passed.

One should NEVER drink and drive, however small an amount one has imbibed, as it could make you slightly less attentive.

About 12 hrs I would say just to be on the safe side.

What if you drink more than 12 units?

Nobody has suggested otherwise :o.

Maybe a week including two days on a drip in hospital :-). I'd probably be dead, or half dead. Don't know, I'll try it later and let you know ;). If I don't return you'll know why. No flowers please.

Good luck :D
I was just looking to point out tht a blanket 'Don't drink and drive' isn't enough.

Who is going to give up drinking on basis of this study?

Not me. I have a small bottle of Polish vodka called "Szambelan" which I intend to sample this very evening.

OOhhh, now that sounds very nice.
Can I pop round ?

That's my least favourite kind of vodka.
I don't mean the brand, I mean a small bottle.
-
Never drunk vodka. On thr rare occasions that I drink spirits, it's single malt whisky (or occasionally whiskey).

Not me. I drink to forget. I drink to remember. I drink to be happy in the company of friends. Alcohol is a gift of God to warm the hearts of men.

Vodka is a top drink. Warm and straight. In the summer sometimes with tonic.

I enjoy cool white wine.
I like to think that the nurses will allow me the same on my final lunchtime on earth.
-
They will Humph, they will (if you're awake), but that is for the future.

Dear diary, today I agreed with ad orientem about something.

Rubbish, a small amount of alcohol isn't going to make a serious dent in your driving ability. If it were a problem, you'd have to ban all sorts of things like driving with a full bladder or driving with a takeaway Indian on the passenger seat.

I don't think it is rubbish, anyway some people's idea of a small amount of alcohol often puts them close to, or over the limit.

A glass of wine would be a small amount of alcohol but impairment as a result for an average person is going to be minimal if any. The law recognises this, which is why the current level is not zero. There are many distractions available to car drivers that will be worse.

Damn right. A glass of wine with food or even one or two beers after work ain't going to affect the driving ability of most people. There! We've agreed again...I'm scared. :(

Having experienced both, my judgement is that driving while absolutely busting for a piss is vastly more likely to be a cause of inattentive and therefore unsafe driving than driving with a more or less empty bladder but after one glass of wine with food.

Non-drivers on the roadside are fairly regularly killed by drivers, for a variety of reasons. If you want to be safe don't be alive.
