Look up. That's my advice. Always look up in cities. You see so much more of the architecture. Unfortunately, you then can't see the dog mess that you are about to stand in  :(

You can do this even in the little market town close to where I live. It's built in a dip so that you can sit up on the hill and look out over Tudor chimneys, Dutch gables etc.
