It must be horrible for all involved.

Dreadful. I would love them to have closure, have a feeling they never will but cannot imagine what they've been through. Other, similar cases, too. Ben Needham for example.
I watched 'Manhunt' on television over three nights about the search for kidnapper, rapist and murderer Levi Bellfield. He was convicted of murdering young women but also a young girl, Millie Dowler. Quite horrible. At least the parents of his victims know he is never getting out of gaol, they do have closure.
Same with the American girl, Elizabeth Smart, about whom there is a book and film. She was abducted from her house at night from a room she shared with her sister and was missing for a year.Thank goodness eventually a police officer saw her out somewhere (she was disguised with a wig and odd clothing), and recognised her.
That was purely because her family never gave up, posters of her were everywhere, they kept her in the public eye. However before she was found they went through some of what the McCanns did, members of the public accusing them of doing away with her, hate mail, etc (I don't actually think anyone has accused the McCanns of murdering their daughter, it's more than they were careless on that night, not having a babysitter).
I feel for the McCanns, also feel for the other two couples with whom they were holidaying. It could have been one of their children who was taken, they must be so conscious of that and the person who last checked on the children but didn't open the bedroom door will never forgive themself. Doesn't bear thinking about.
The McCanns are not asking for public funding any more but if they can raise private funds to continue the search I see nothing wrong with that. It will never be over for them.
