Hi everyone,
http://www.bbc.com/capital/story/20190405-why-the-world-now-has-more-grandparents-than-grandchildren
*********
For the first time in history, there are more elderly people in the world than young children, according to the United Nations.
Their figures show that the number of over-65s surpassed that of under-fives at the end of 2018.
There are now around 705 million people over-65 on the planet, while those aged 0-4 number about 680 million.
In 1960, the world's fertility rate was almost five children per woman, according to the World Bank.
Almost 60 years later it has halved to only 2.4.
At the same time, socio-economic advances have benefited those who come into this world. In 1960 people lived on average a little over 52 years; the current life expectancy reached 72 years in 2017.
That means we are all living longer and demanding more and more resources as we get older, increasing pressure in areas such as pensions and health systems.
"There will be very few children and lots of people over the age of 65 and that makes it very difficult to sustain global society."

Interesting!
Cheers.

Wow,there are 267 women in the world giving birth every minute. These women must be found and stopped!
-
If men were the one's giving birth I reckon no family would have more than one child! ;D

Yep, they wouldn't be so stupid as to have more ;)

I had three birth children, actually giving birth isn't the most pleasant of experiences. I decided to be sterilised when the youngest girl was born as I didn't wish to put myself through that again.

What I found surprising about the article was that they seemed to be complaining that the population of youngsters is declining, from an economic point of view.... while we should be actually happy that the population as a whole is likely to decline at this rate.

My in-laws never forgave my husband for being a male, they already had one son much older than him and were hoping for a daughter who would look after them in their old age, which would have been a fate worse then death! >:(

That's rubbish! A kick in the bollocks is much more painful. Proof: no sane man has had boot to the family jewels and then said, do it again please. ;D You can't argue against that logic! ;)

And you have given birth have you? If not you have no idea what you are talking about! ::)

It's just possible that he might be joshing.

A kick in the bollocks is indeed very, very painful and it takes a long time to go away, giving birth may also be very painful and may have to be endured over several hours. However, no woman can receive such a kick and no man can give birth - I doubt it is realistically possible to compare the two. It seems pointless to try and compare them.
It also seems pointless for LR to make this kind of challenging statement. I wonder if, had a statement been made which was attempting to diminish the capability of women in a hypothetical but impossible situation, whether LR would have condemned it as sexist? Come on our Floo, you can do better than that.

Gawd! Take no offence, please. It was said in jest. As has rightly been pointed out above, one cannot in any meaningful way be conpared to the other. Anyway, pain is subjective.

Maybe I should line you guys up, next to a woman in labour, kick you where it hurts and see who screams in agony the longest. ;D ;D ;D
