My thoughts are with the injured, who have suffered horrendous burns, and the families of the dead. The death toll is now definitely sixteen, but in all probability eighteen, two other bodies are yet to be retrieved. It is so very tragic, it should not have happened, apparently the operators of the tour had been warned that the volcano could erupt. :o
No doubt heads will eventually roll, but at present it is the victims and their families who need care and support to come to terms with this tragedy.

An entirely avoidable tragedy and, yes, it certainly needs investigation, and no doubt NZ Health and Safety people will be having some very strong words about this.
I actually did a day trip from Auckland to the island at the beginning of 1986 - most interesting. I did not go to the top though.
